Our History
The Actors Conservatory first opened its doors in 1993 with a small but eager group of actors. Since then we have gone from strength to strength. Since we first opened we have had many 100’s of students successfully graduate from our Advanced Diploma of Screen and Stage Acting course and are now professional working actors around the world. In 2010 we moved into our exciting new premises at 96 Albert St – right in the heart of Brisbane City. We are proud to offer our students a fun and supportive environment along with high quality education with a pay as you go fee schedule. Our future looks bright as we expand our course offerings into related fields – such as the new Advanced Diploma of Screen & Media - making The Actors Conservatory Australia's first 3D and 2D film school!
Advanced Diploma of Screen & Stage Acting - Historical Background
Amongst industry guests who accepted the invitation to help steer the development of our Advanced Diploma of Screen & Stage Acting were both Bill Hunter, an Australian acting icon (Strictly Ballroom, Muriel's Wedding etc) and Liddy Clark, herself a past prime time television star who was, at that time Queensland head of the Actors Union (M.E.A.A.) and is now an elected member of government. In their last committee meeting before the Advanced Diploma was accredited, both celebrities went on record to describe the A.Con program as the best of its kind they had seen developed anywhere in Australia. We thank them both heartily for this generous compliment and the very great support they lent steering the development of your program.

What we can do for you...
Do you want to become a working professional actor? Then get prepared for your profession with a recognised entry level qualification: The Advanced Diploma of Screen & Stage Acting.
Still in high school? Not a problem - the Conservatory also offers a Youth Program.
O.K., you feel you have the potential to become a professional actor. Your instinct is probably right. But if you want to have a shot at the big jobs you will eventually need the kind of agent who gets the right kind of calls. You'll need one who can put you up for big auditions, not just send you off after little stuff time after time. But the biggest agents in Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne don't take just anyone and anyone who doesn't have a recognised entry level qualification hardly stands a chance.
Why? Because so many people door-knock them every day they have to make their filtering process strict and simple. Usually they do this by saying, "Look, if you don't have an advanced diploma or degree go away for now and come back when you get one."
It just makes sense. Doing little short workshops for a few weeks or months or even only a year just doesn't compare with 4 semesters of properly planned and connected advanced diploma study. Lots of people want to believe a short cut will still get them there. Lots of people want to believe just six months or only a year of training will be enough to impress the agents. But lots of those same people finish up realising the short cut was actually a disappointing dead end. The standard entry level qualification for acting in Australia is an advanced diploma, it's offered at NIDA, it's offered here at The Actors Conservatory. The industry risks big money on newcomers, so regardless how good an audition may look in the first place, if you're a newcomer, they still want proof on paper that you have a history of being well trained and dedicated. For what they're going to risk, they want, deserve and will demand at least that much proof.
Acting's not as difficult to learn as some skills but the profession offers much bigger rewards than most. Film and TV opportunities for Australian men and women are becoming massive and big jobs for new actors of all ages are popping up all year round. That's why our courses are open every quarter, not just once a year, and you’ll get a showreel of your work after you graduate. Our successful graduates have proven this training can open pathways to real commercial results in the feature film, television, theatre and comedy industries. Remember, you really don't need any experience at all to gain entry and get started, so like many people, you're probably ready right now.

Most private schools ask you to make big payments up front - we don't. At the Conservatory you simply pay as you go for each week of training. The only way a program like ours can operate on this basis is to offer quality training which keeps students coming back.
